Petrobras Announces Three Oil, Gas Discoveries In Brazil

Published: 04-Nov-2009

Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) has informed Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP) about three recent oil and natural gas discoveries in the Potiguar and Espirito Santo basins, Dow Jones Newswires reported. The first discovery was made in the BM-POT-13 offshore block in the Potiguar basin. Traces of oil and natural gas were discovered in the 1BRSA732DRNS well, which was drilled by the North Star 1 rig to a depth of 4,085 meters.

Petrobras is lead operator of the block with a 65% interest, while El Paso Oleo e Gas do Brasil Ltda. holds the rest 35%.

Petrobras has found traces of oil at the inland BT-POT-9 block in the Potiguar basin on October 31, 2009. The 1BRSA762DRN well was drilled by the Rotopercursora Hidrogeo rig to a depth of 3,180 meters.

Petrobras operates the block with a 50% interest, while closely held Partex Brasil Ltda. holds the rest 50% share.

Additionally, Petrobras also reported on October 30, 2009 an oil discovery at the onshore ES-T-383 block in the Espirito Santo Basin. The 4BRSA771ES well was drilled by the Sonda de Perfuracao Pres 08 rig to a total depth of 1,805 meters.

Petrobras holds 100% interest in the block.

Oil companies operating in Brazil must inform the ANP of indications of oil, gas or hydrocarbons in any exploratory well within 48 hours. The disclosures are routine, and do not indicate commercial viability.
