Dana Petroleum Announces Oil Discovery In Jetta Sidetrack Well, Offshore Norway
Published: 12-Nov-2009
Dana Petroleum Plc (Dana Petroleum) and its co-venturers have discovered oil in the Jetta sidetrack well (25/8-17 A) offshore Norway. ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway AS (ExxonMobil), operator of production license (PL) 027 D, is currently concluding the drilling operations on the Jetta wildcat well 25/8-17 and its sidetrack appraisal well 25/8-17 A. Det norske oljeselskap ASA (Det norske) conducted the drilling activity on behalf of ExxonMobil.
The wells are located around four kilometers south of the Jotun producing oil field in which Dana Petroleum holds a significant interest.
The primary exploration target for these two wells was to prove the presence of petroleum in Paleocene age reservoir rocks. Oil was proven in both wells, but with less reservoir thickness than prognosed. Extensive data has been gathered in the reservoir zones, including pressure tests and oil samples. Given the close proximity of the Jetta oil discovery to existing oil producing infrastructure, further work needs to be carried out to evaluate the commerciality of the Jetta accumulation in conjunction with other fields.
Well 25/8-17 was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,208 meters below sea level and was concluded in the Rogaland Group of Paleocene age. The sidetrack well, 25/8-17 A, was drilled to a vertical depth of 2154 meters and was also concluded in the Rogaland Group, both these exploration wells will be permanently plugged and abandoned as planned.
The wells were drilled in a water depth of approximately 127 meters by the Bredford Dolphin drilling rig, in a cost-sharing operation between PL 027 D, 169 C and 504.
The partners in the PL PL 027 D are Bridge Energy AS - 10%, ExxonMobil - 25%, Dana Petroleum Norway AS - 30% and Det norske - 35%.
