Chevron Wins Approval From NDRC For First Phase Of Chuandongbei Natural Gas Project In China

Published: 30-Oct-2009

Chevron Corporation (Chevron) has received approval from China National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) for the first phase of its $4.7 billion Chuandongbei natural gas project, Dow Jones Newswires reported. The company has received the regulatory approval almost two years after Chevron signed a 30-year production sharing contract with China National Petroleum Corporation to develop the Chuandongbei gas area in the southwestern Sichuan province.

The area covered under Chuandongbei area is nearly 2,000 square kilometers and has an estimated resource base of five trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

"The National Development and Reform Commission approved the first stage of the project development plans, which include the relocation and completion of three natural gas purification trains and the completion of a sulfur plant," Chevron said.

Chevron operates the Chuandongbei project with 49% stake and CNPC holds remaining 51% stake.
